The Camrose Kodiaks are thrilled to announce the hiring of Geoff Walker as the new Head Coach of the hockey club.
Walker joins the Kodiaks following two successful seasons as Head Coach and General Manager of the Drayton Valley Thunder. A veteran behind the bench, Walker has coached over 350 games in the Canadian Junior Hockey League (CJHL) since 2019. His coaching résumé includes two league championships with the Red Lake Miners of the SIJHL and back-to-back Centennial Cup appearances in 2022 and 2023.
“When Geoff’s name came up in the hiring process, he checked off a lot of boxes with our organization’s vision, values, and beliefs,” said Kodiaks General Manager Eric Kroetch. “Geoff has extensive knowledge of the game of hockey and will work closely with last year’s interim head coach Shawn Germain this season to continue building on what our staff implemented with the players both on and off the ice. We are also happy to announce that Shawn Germain remains on the coaching staff along with accepting the role of Director of Player Development this season for the club. It’s an exciting time for Kodiaks Hockey. There have been a lot of changes in the hockey world over the past few years, and we feel we’re now finding our direction and putting the right people in place to take this program to the next level.”
Before transitioning into coaching, Walker built an impressive playing career with 245 games in the QMJHL and 293 games in the American Hockey League (AHL), retiring as a professional player in 2018.
Geoff, recently engaged to his fiancée Natasha, is eager to bring his experience and energy to the Kodiaks. “I’m honored to join such a proud and community-driven organization,” said Walker. “Camrose has a rich hockey history, and I can’t wait to be a part of the Kodiaks family and contribute to its next chapter.”
Please join us in welcoming Geoff Walker to Camrose and the Kodiaks community.
