After finishing 1st in the South Division in the regular season and earning a first round bye, the Kodiaks met a resilient Drumheller Dragons team in the 2nd round of the playoffs. The Kodiaks headed to Brooks to face the Bandits in Game 7 of their second round playoff series. The Bandits had led the series 3-2 after a quadruple overtime win in Game 5. The Kodiaks came into the game riding a 7-game losing streak which had begun on September 20th with a 2-1 shoot-out loss to the Okotoks Oilers at Encana Arena. The opposition on this night would be the rival Olds Grizzlys, who had won 5 straight games. The Kodiaks hosted the Fort McMurray Oil Barons in Game 7 of the AJHL Championship Series. It was a full house at Edgeworth Centre with over 3,000 fans in attendance to watch the deciding game. Another classic "Battle of the Bears" in Olds. A banged-up Kodiaks' team went into the game against the Grizzlys without both of their 20 year-old co-captains, Nolan Marshall and Jonathan Lashyn. They faced a two-goal deficit after 40 minutes but came up with a historical 3rd period in a game that could only be labelled "wild & wacky". Listen to the game here.
